Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of our approach to keeping South Wales safe. Our PCSOs and officers are proud to be integral parts of the communities they serve.

We want to ensure our neighbourhood policing is as efficient and effective as it can be, and our aim is to be the best in the country at understanding and responding to the needs and priorities of each individual community. Your local neighbourhood policing team is made up of officers and PCSOs based in your area who are both visible and accessible.

Fundamental to our model of neighbourhood policing is engaging with our communities: connecting with individuals, organisations, businesses, schools, workplaces and others; working to understand, respond to, and tackle your concerns and priorities; and putting measures in place to prevent issues from escalating – or from occurring in the first place.

By working together and focusing on early intervention, prevention and problem solving, we can find long-term solutions to local problems.

Shoplifting and antisocial behaviour (begging) Issued 17 June 2025	The Cardiff Bay Neighbourhood Policing Team has been proactively patrolling identified shoplifting hotspots as part of our ongoing efforts to reduce anti-social behaviour and retail crime. In addition, we have begun rolling out Operation Grammica — an initiative designed to support local businesses by educating store staff on how to effectively share CCTV footage with police. This enables quicker identification of offenders and enhances our ability to take timely enforcement action. We remain committed to working in partnership with the community and local retailers to create a safer environment for everyone. The Cardiff Bay Neighbourhood Policing Team has increased patrols in areas identified as begging hotspots. Working closely with partner agencies, we have made targeted ASB referrals for individuals and locations repeatedly linked to street-based activity. This joint approach focuses not only on enforcement but also on providing support and pathways out of street-based lifestyles—helping vulnerable individuals access the services they need.
