Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of our approach to keeping South Wales safe. Our PCSOs and officers are proud to be integral parts of the communities they serve.

We want to ensure our neighbourhood policing is as efficient and effective as it can be, and our aim is to be the best in the country at understanding and responding to the needs and priorities of each individual community. Your local neighbourhood policing team is made up of officers and PCSOs based in your area who are both visible and accessible.

Fundamental to our model of neighbourhood policing is engaging with our communities: connecting with individuals, organisations, businesses, schools, workplaces and others; working to understand, respond to, and tackle your concerns and priorities; and putting measures in place to prevent issues from escalating – or from occurring in the first place.

By working together and focusing on early intervention, prevention and problem solving, we can find long-term solutions to local problems.

Please note that to report a crime or incident to South Wales Police, you can visit Home | South Wales Police or in an emergency, please dial 999.

Shoplifting [Grangetown/Butetown]

Issued 15 December 2025

Officers in both Butetown and Grangetown have been carrying out a dedicated operation to tackle shoplifting and support local businesses. Proactive patrols in key areas are already helping to deter offenders, ensuring our high streets remain safe and welcoming for everyone.
This work is strengthened by close partnership with local shops, security teams, and community organisations. By sharing information and working together, we’re able to respond quickly to concerns and provide better protection for businesses and shoppers alike.
Our teams will continue regular patrols and engagement with the community, and we encourage anyone with information or concerns to speak with their local officers.

Drug dealing & anti-social behaviour

Issued 17 June 2025

In response to concerns regarding anti-social behaviour, including incidents of shoplifting, the Cardiff Bay Neighbourhood Policing Team has established a designated POP which has given us a greater presence in the area and allowed us to deter ASB in the areas which are having higher demand along with increased engagement points to provide support and reassurance to the local community and businesses.
What is a POP?
POP Plans are to be utilised as a short-term intervention problem solving approach in response to problem issues and concerns in your communities. They are simple plans which will be created utilising the SARA problem solving methodology. The POP plan is used to record the problem solving that NPT officers are doing daily.

In response to drug dealing concerns we have created a two pronged approach increased community access to Police which works as a great way to develop community intelligence reporting and an increase in pro-active police patrols targeting hotspot areas. If you would like to see the results of our pro-active policing - sign up to South Wales Listens and Follow SWP Cardiff and the Vale on Facebook.

Regarding the on-going issue of ASB under the bridge connecting to Wood St, Neighbourhood team are working pro-activity with Cardiff Council and supporting partnerships to solve the issue and support those effected. Further updates will be given in due course.
