Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of our approach to keeping South Wales safe. Our PCSOs and officers are proud to be integral parts of the communities they serve.

We want to ensure our neighbourhood policing is as efficient and effective as it can be, and our aim is to be the best in the country at understanding and responding to the needs and priorities of each individual community. Your local neighbourhood policing team is made up of officers and PCSOs based in your area who are both visible and accessible.

Fundamental to our model of neighbourhood policing is engaging with our communities: connecting with individuals, organisations, businesses, schools, workplaces and others; working to understand, respond to, and tackle your concerns and priorities; and putting measures in place to prevent issues from escalating – or from occurring in the first place.

By working together and focusing on early intervention, prevention and problem solving, we can find long-term solutions to local problems.

ASB on KING SQUARE, BARRY LIBRARY and MULTI STOREY CAR PARK – A way Marker was implemented for the Multi Storey Car Park and regular patrols and contact maintained with security staff who now have Body Worn Video cameras. Intel logs also submitted as a result for dealing at the location. I am not aware of any recent reports so this can be closed. These locations are always going to attract issues/reports due to the nature of the location and will have periods of increased/decreased incidents. Place Based Policing (PBP) patrols will continue to direct resources to these location to address/monitor issues and provide a visible presence.

Shoplifting – This priority will continue as it is an on going issue. A number of offender have been arrested/charged and NPT have been proactive in identifying offenders and stopping wanted offenders. The proactive team have also been supportive in taking action against offenders. We currently have 4 offenders on CBOs with conditions not to attend recent retail premises in Barry and exclusion zone such as HOLTON ROAD and positive action is taken for any breaches of conditions. We continue to patrol and engage with retailers along Holton Road and carry out engagements on KINGS SQUARE with partner agencies such as TONY PARKER, Town WARDEN and the CSP. PBP will also direct more visible units to HOLTON ROAD to deter/identify offenders and provide more reassurance to the public/retailers.
