Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of our approach to keeping South Wales safe. Our PCSOs and officers are proud to be integral parts of the communities they serve.
We want to ensure our neighbourhood policing is as efficient and effective as it can be, and our aim is to be the best in the country at understanding and responding to the needs and priorities of each individual community. Your local neighbourhood policing team is made up of officers and PCSOs based in your area who are both visible and accessible.
Fundamental to our model of neighbourhood policing is engaging with our communities: connecting with individuals, organisations, businesses, schools, workplaces and others; working to understand, respond to, and tackle your concerns and priorities; and putting measures in place to prevent issues from escalating – or from occurring in the first place.
By working together and focusing on early intervention, prevention and problem solving, we can find long-term solutions to local problems.

South Wales Police carried out their annual Operation Advent which, working alongside the Merthyr Clear Hold Build Project and other key partners, resulted in increased patrols throughout the Town Centre over the Christmas period. Actioned 08 March 2026 |

Drug Dealing Outside "Dickie's Shop", Queens Road Issued 08 December 2025 |
We have conducted high‑visibility patrols in the identified areas. A local councillor has asked MTCBC to consider deploying a mobile CCTV camera at the location. We will continue to monitor the area closely, and our Safer Neighbourhood Team will also provide targeted patrols during key times. Actioned 08 March 2026 |

We have carried out high-visibility patrols in identified areas and concerns of decreased significantly. Actioned 08 December 2025 |

Street Drinking Issued 10 September 2025 |
We are working with the local authority on a potential Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for the area. We are also conducting joint pavement patrols to advise, support, and signpost street drinkers. Actioned 08 December 2025 |

A bike was seized in the Town Centre on Bonfire night. Op Atal (a Welsh Road Safety Initiative) continues. We also continue working with Housing Providers to establish where these bikes are being stored as that is a breach of their tenancy rules. Actioned 08 December 2025 |
