Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of our approach to keeping South Wales safe. Our PCSOs and officers are proud to be integral parts of the communities they serve.
We want to ensure our neighbourhood policing is as efficient and effective as it can be, and our aim is to be the best in the country at understanding and responding to the needs and priorities of each individual community. Your local neighbourhood policing team is made up of officers and PCSOs based in your area who are both visible and accessible.
Fundamental to our model of neighbourhood policing is engaging with our communities: connecting with individuals, organisations, businesses, schools, workplaces and others; working to understand, respond to, and tackle your concerns and priorities; and putting measures in place to prevent issues from escalating – or from occurring in the first place.
By working together and focusing on early intervention, prevention and problem solving, we can find long-term solutions to local problems.

Regular patrols have been conducted in the Bryntirion Road and Union Street area by local PCSOs in response to reports of suspected drug-related activity involving vehicles. Joint visits have also been undertaken with partner agencies, including Local Authority Housing and Homelessness Officers and Barod. The location continues to be monitored through Local Authority CCTV, supporting ongoing intelligence gathering and reassurance activity. As work to address the issue remains ongoing, this priority will be carried forward for continued attention by neighbourhood policing teams and partner agencies. Actioned 07 September 2026 |

Street Cleansing Department within MTCBC liased with and items removed from location. Regular patrols are undertaken in the area and building is closely monitored by both local CCTV and local officers when in the area. Actioned 08 June 2026 |

We have patrolled hotspots for drug-related activity and gathered intelligence resulting in a marked reduction in calls and information being received. South Wales Police carried out their annual Operation Advent which, working alongside the Merthyr Clear Hold Build Project and other key partners, resulted in increased patrols throughout the Town Centre over the Christmas period. Actioned 08 March 2026 |

We have conducted high‑visibility patrols in the identified areas. A local councillor has asked MTCBC to consider deploying a mobile CCTV camera at the location.
