Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of our approach to keeping South Wales safe. Our PCSOs and officers are proud to be integral parts of the communities they serve.
We want to ensure our neighbourhood policing is as efficient and effective as it can be, and our aim is to be the best in the country at understanding and responding to the needs and priorities of each individual community. Your local neighbourhood policing team is made up of officers and PCSOs based in your area who are both visible and accessible.
Fundamental to our model of neighbourhood policing is engaging with our communities: connecting with individuals, organisations, businesses, schools, workplaces and others; working to understand, respond to, and tackle your concerns and priorities; and putting measures in place to prevent issues from escalating – or from occurring in the first place.
By working together and focusing on early intervention, prevention and problem solving, we can find long-term solutions to local problems.
Please note that to report a crime or incident to South Wales Police, you can visit Home | South Wales Police or in an emergency, please dial 999.

Local Priority Issues

Shoplifiting - Town Centre - Shoplifting continues to be an issue within Bridgend town centre. Shops targeted the most are SPAR and Boots. Issued 17 June 2025 |
We patrol the town centre frequently and make our presence known. The storenet radio is utilised to communicate with the shops and Bridgend County Borough Council CCTV. There are also quarterly meetings for the town centre which we attend, and this is to discuss offences which are committed within the town centre. We have a good rapport with the retail community and we always aim to deal with shoplifting offences when they are reported. The two main shops that are targeted are Spar and Boots and both these locations are visited multiple times daily. We also engage with the drug intervention programme. Officers are now able to refer subjects to the drug intervention so they can get further support if needed as many shoplift to fund a drug habit. Actioned 17 June 2025 |
Public Order - Town Centre - There is a high volume of Public Order incidents in the town centre due to persons being under the influence of alcohol. Issued 17 June 2025 |
The town centre is a hotspot location for Anti-social behaviour/Disorder involving alcohol misuse. Anti-social behaviour referrals are submitted for repeat offenders and there are also Community protection notices in place. Section 35 notices are also issued which can ban a subject from a certain location for a period of time, normally 48 hours. If this is breached the subjects are then arrested. As with shoplifting, we engage with both the Wallich and the drug intervention programme to offer a support network. In some cases, this has had a positive outcome. Actioned 17 June 2025 |
Drug dealing/taking - Town Centre - Persons are continuing to deal and take drugs within the town centre, specifically in the lane behind BEATS café. Issued 17 June 2025 |
We proactively patrol the town centre and listen to the concerns of our retail community. Drugs is an issue that is reported frequently. Where grounds exist, persons are stop searched and if it’s a positive search, then is it dealt with robustly. We also engage with the drug intervention programme which support subjects, which in some cases has had a positive impact since the use of the buvidal injection. Areas of concern are patrolled daily.
