Neighbourhood policing is at the heart of our approach to keeping South Wales safe. Our PCSOs and officers are proud to be integral parts of the communities they serve.

We want to ensure our neighbourhood policing is as efficient and effective as it can be, and our aim is to be the best in the country at understanding and responding to the needs and priorities of each individual community. Your local neighbourhood policing team is made up of officers and PCSOs based in your area who are both visible and accessible.

Fundamental to our model of neighbourhood policing is engaging with our communities: connecting with individuals, organisations, businesses, schools, workplaces and others; working to understand, respond to, and tackle your concerns and priorities; and putting measures in place to prevent issues from escalating – or from occurring in the first place.

By working together and focusing on early intervention, prevention and problem solving, we can find long-term solutions to local problems.

Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Shoplifiting - Town Centre - Shoplifting continues to be an issue within Bridgend town centre. Shops targeted the most are SPAR and Boots.

Issued 17 June 2025

We patrol the town centre frequently and make our presence known. The storenet radio is utilised to communicate with the shops and Bridgend County Borough Council CCTV. There are also quarterly meetings for the town centre which we attend, and this is to discuss offences which are committed within the town centre. We have a good rapport with the retail community and we always aim to deal with shoplifting offences when they are reported. The two main shops that are targeted are Spar and Boots and both these locations are visited multiple times daily. We also engage with the drug intervention programme. Officers are now able to refer subjects to the drug intervention so they can get further support if needed as many shoplift to fund a drug habit.
We also engage with the Wallich who have good connections with the majority of our subjects.
There are currently two Op orders set up in the Morfa ward.
Op Sentinel - Targeted deployment of resources to three microbeats to reduce criminal activity. Requirement: High visibility Patrols, Anti-social behaviour referrals, Section 35 notices and zero tolerance, positive enforcement around crime and disorder. Op Chudleigh (now Op Dianella) - Proactive operation around Bridgend Town centre utilising Neighbourhood policing teams, Community safety partners and OP Sentinel staff targeting Anti-social behaviour, Crime and disorder within the town centre.

Public Order - Town Centre - There is a high volume of Public Order incidents in the town centre due to persons being under the influence of alcohol.

Issued 17 June 2025

The town centre is a hotspot location for Anti-social behaviour/Disorder involving alcohol misuse. Anti-social behaviour referrals are submitted for repeat offenders and there are also Community protection notices in place. Section 35 notices are also issued which can ban a subject from a certain location for a period of time, normally 48 hours. If this is breached the subjects are then arrested. As with shoplifting, we engage with both the Wallich and the drug intervention programme to offer a support network. In some cases, this has had a positive outcome.
