Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Tackling drug dealing in the Ely and Caerau areas, particularly in and around recreational spaces frequently used by families and children, as well as within residential properties in the community. Residents have expressed particular concern about the use of both open public spaces and private homes to facilitate the sale of controlled drugs. These areas include playgrounds and recreational sites regularly visited by children and families, posing a significant risk to community safety and wellbeing.

Issued 17 June 2025

We will continue to take robust and proactive action against individuals involved in drug dealing. This includes the use of our full policing powers to disrupt criminal activity. We will also collaborate closely with our partner agencies to prevent the re-use of these locations for drug-related offenses and to safeguard the community.

Actioned 17 June 2025

Anti-social and illegal use of off-road motorcycles in the Ely and Caerau areas. The community has raised significant concerns regarding the illegal use of off-road motorcycles across public streets, recreational spaces, and common land within Ely and Caerau. This activity poses a serious risk to public safety, particularly in areas extensively used by children and families.

Issued 17 June 2025

We will continue to work in close partnership with relevant agencies to address this issue. Targeted operations will be conducted to identify and apprehend individuals involved. Where appropriate, vehicles will be seized under existing legislation, and enforcement action, including prosecution, will be pursued to deter repeat offences and protect the safety of our communities.

Actioned 17 June 2025

Deliberate fires in wooded and recreational areas in Ely and Caerau. There have been reports of anti-social behaviour involving the deliberate setting of fires in parks, open recreational spaces, and wooded areas throughout Ely and Caerau. These incidents pose a serious risk to public safety, property, and the environment.

Issued 17 June 2025

We will work closely with partner agencies, particularly South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, to conduct joint patrols in the affected areas. In addition, we will assist South Wales Fire and Rescue Service in delivering community-based education and engagement initiatives to raise awareness of the dangers and consequences of such behaviour, with the aim of preventing further incidents.
