Anti Social Behaviour - Section 59 |
||
|
NEW SECTION 59 LAW
As of June 26th 2026, under the crime and policing act 2026, the police can immediately seize a vehicle being driven in an anti social manner without needing to issue a prior warning first. This updates section 59 of the police reform act 2002 to allow faster enforcement against nuisance driving.
This means that if a vehicle causes, or is likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance through careless or illegal use, officers can seize the vehicle on the spot. This applies to specific nuisances, including illegal street racing, off-road bike misuse and disruptive vehicle gatherings.
This new legislation will make it easier for police, local authorities and partner agencies to tackle ASB.
