You Said, We did - ASB

BILINGUAL MESSAGE / NEGES DWYIEITHOG

Hello Resident

I just wanted to give you an update on Operation Myrica, a dedicated operation targeting anti social behaviour on Clifton Street which has been running since the start of June 2025.

You might recall a previous message where I discussed the launch of the operation, stating that Operation Myrica has been months in the planning, involving intelligence led policing and strong collaboration with partner agencies. The aim is not only to provide an immediate visible presence, but also to tackle the root causes of the problems through longer term partnership work.

The operation launched with a plan for presence - we listened to feedback which said that the public wanted an increase in police presence on Clifton Street.

We therefore put a plan in place to have an officer dedicated to patrolling Clifton Street and the wider square mile area on most days of June, pulling officers from their own areas in Tremorfa and Splott to be able to do so.

On the 28 days that the operation ran in June, we actually achieved 37 specific ‘days’ of patrolling on Clifton Street. We are awaiting some further analytical work to measure the increase in police patrols in June compared to May via a heatmap, and our initial assessment is that we will have achieved far more hours of patrolling than currently assessed given the increased presence locally that officers from Roath provided on their non designated days, often at the expense of patrolling their own areas.

47 acts of positive action have been recorded since the start of the operation. A positive action includes an arrest, stop search or a vehicle seizure for example.

26 of those actions were arrests.

4 of those arrests were recalls – where people are immediately sent back to prison to serve the remainder of a previously imposed sentence.

4 vehicles have been seized for having no insurance

2 ebikes have been seized for not being legal

Our action last Friday the 25th of July is also the start of more activity, and we are continuing discussions with our partners to close down rogue premises and improve feelings of safety in the area.

We are grateful for the support from our partners in placing new gates on Ruby Street and we have already seen a reduction in reports of anti social behaviour at that location.

Community feedback in June was very positive, with a number of stores highlighting improvements.

In July we listened to some feedback from the community again which suggested that changing our approach from one officer per day, to less days of more officers would be better.

The feedback from that change doesn't appear as positive, and so we will look at other options from this week.

Our work with partners is continuing to develop towards more sustainable and long term solutions. We are exploring a range of ideas, outcomes and possibilities and hope to provide further updates on those over the next few months once relevant funding and agreement is secured.

We have also listened to feedback in regard to Roath Police Station on Clifton Street and are trying to address concerns over its appearance.

We have today completed some works to the front of the building, and plan to complete further works over the next couple of weeks.

If you have any information to support our future policing activities, then please let us know. You can message us or report anonymously via crimestoppers.

The Roath Neighbourhood Policing Team and I are invested in positive change in this area, and we look forward to further positive updates in due course.

Thank you
