Local Priorities Nuisance motorbikes / Scooters Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Nuisance motorbikes / Scooters, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

YOU SAID WE DID

Due to complaints from the public , South Wales Police neighbourhood Policing Team set up an operation assisted by immigration and the Council to tackle the issue of illegally modified electric pedal assisted bikes which are being ridden around the City Centre in pedestrianised areas.
These bikes have been converted into mechanically propelled vehicles reaching speeds of up to 60mph.
on Thursday 26th June, 5 illegally modified bikes were seized and 1 person taken into custody by immigration.

It is an offence to ride a converted or modified bike in a public place which can result in the seizure of the vehicle and/or a fine.
These bikes will be taken off the road permanently and destroyed.

Bydd y beiciau hyn yn cael eu tynnu o'r ffordd yn barhaol a'u dinistrio.

Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police.

February 2025 saw the publication of the Ministry of Justice Crime and Policing Bill: Antisocial behaviour (ASB) factsheet. This outlined a number of new measures including making powers to seize vehicles under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 easier to use, allowing the police to react robustly and immediately to the anti-social use of motor vehicles.

If you witness a motor vehicle or mechanically propelled vehicle being driven/ridden in an anti-social manner in a public place or on a public road, or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at www.southwalespolice.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
