Crime prevention message

Hello Resident

#BEVIGILANT | There has been an increase in vehicles being stolen in areas of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Barry, Penarth, Canton, Ely, Fairwater, Llanishen and Llanederyn have all seen a spike in thefts compared to December.

We know that being a victim of car crime is upsetting, costly and an inconvenience. It’s particularly distressing when you are a repeat victim.

The most stolen vehicles last month were Fords (27) Land Rovers (5) and Volkswagen (4).

Fiesta, Transit and Ecosport were the most targeted Ford models.

There has also been a rise in thefts from vehicles.

Please be reassured that officers are is doing everything possible to identify those responsible and we are on regular patrol.

Here are some tips to help prevent vehicle crime.

1 – Check your vehicle daily.

2 – Check vehicle is secure before leaving.

3 – Remove items of value.

4 – Where possible, park in a well-lit area and covered by CCTV as this can deter thieves and also help detect crime.

5 - Make a note of the location using the What 3 Words app.

  • Leaving vehicles unlocked gives opportunistic criminals an easy steal.
  • Leaving any valuable items gives criminals a way to make easy money from your hard-earned cash.
