Criminal Damage / Damage to motor vehicles

It has been brought to the attention of South Wales Police that there have been several vehicles damaged on Cyncoed Road in recent months. Reports state that cars that are parking on the side of the road that runs from Gwern-Rhuddi Road to Pen-Y-Lan Road are being scratched. The scratches are significant in size with most running down both sides of the cars from the front of the car all the way to the back. These scratches are quite clearly not accidental and have been caused deliberately. Reports are mainly coming from residents of Cyncoed Road who are simply parking outside of their house for either convenience reasons or as their driveway is obstructed with building work or skips. There has also been reports from some construction workers as you will be aware there is quite a bit of building work on Cyncoed Road at the moment.

I understand from speaking to some residents that there is some frustration with people parking on Cyncoed Road. What I can say is that, from a policing point of view, there is absolutely no way we would be able to book vehicles parking on Cyncoed Road, unless of course, they are parked on the white zigzags or causing a complete obstruction of the pavement or somebodies’ driveway. As the pavements on Cyncoed Road are so wide, one could park all four wheels of a car on the pavement and there would still be room for a push chair/wheelchair to get past. If it is the case that you come across an incident where a push chair or wheelchair would not be able to get past or if you find a vehicle parked on the white zigzags, please call it through to 101 or alternatively you can email 101 and it will be dealt with accordingly by the local policing team. If a vehicle is parked on the double yellow lines, please call it through to the council.

Under no circumstances is it ok to take the law into your own hands and cause damage to other people’s property. Cyncoed neighbourhood policing team are working effortlessly to try to find out who it is that has caused all this damage. CCTV cameras are being checked up and down Cyncoed Road and if a subject is found, action will be taken as this is criminal damage that has caused the residents of Cyncoed Road and visitors thousands of pounds to repair.

I am aware that some residents believe it to be pupils that are causing the damage so as a precaution I am happy to get in touch with the local schools and perhaps give a talk on the matter or get an email sent out to all pupils. Although in most cases, the damage has been caused overnight which is leading me to believe that it is most likely to be someone who is bothered by the parking on Cyncoed Road.

If you have any information regarding any damage to motor vehicle on Cyncoed Road or any CCTV that may have captured any incidents please get in touch with myself on the details left below.
