VEHICLE CRIME

Around half of thefts from motor vehicles in Penarth, Cardiff Bay and Grangetown, last month were from vehicles left insecure.

Being a victim of car crime is upsetting, costly and an inconvenience. It’s particularly distressing when you are a repeat victim.

There were 29 thefts from vehicles and15 of these were not locked. Items stolen included electrical items, wallets, cash, tools, and sunglasses.

Here are some tips to help prevent vehicle crime.

1 – Check your vehicle daily.

2 – Check vehicle is secure before leaving.

3 – Remove items of value.

4 – Where possible, park in a well-lit area and covered by CCTV as this can deter thieves and also help detect crime.

5 - Make a note of the location using the What 3 Words app.

Leaving vehicles unlocked gives opportunistic criminals an easy steal.

Leaving any valuable items gives criminals a way to make easy money from your hard-earned cash.
