Police Impersonation Scam

The police have received reports of residents being contacted by a criminal impersonating a Police Officer, stating that they were from Hammersmith Police Station, London.

They stated that the victim had 5 outstanding warrants and unless they paid £5000, that they would be arrested and taken to Prison. So convincing were the criminals that the victim paid part of the amount requested.

The Police will never contact you like this requesting that you pay money to avoid arrest either via bank transfer or gift cards or for money to be collected by a courier. If you get a call like this and are unsure, then STOP. Get their details and then call 159 for your Banks Fraud Department or 101 for the Police but using a different telephone to the one that you were originally called on.

If you do not have a different telephone to hand, then wait 5 minutes and ring a family member or friend to ensure the line has been disconnected. If you think that you may have been a victim of this or any other type of scam, then contact your Bank immediately, which you can do by calling 159 and report it to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/  or call 0300 123 2040

Sgam Dynwared yr Heddlu

Mae preswylydd wedi rhoi gwybod am droseddwr yn cysylltu ag ef ac yn dynwared Swyddog yr Heddlu, gan ddatgan ei fod o Orsaf Heddlu Hammersmith, Llundain. Nododd bod gan y dioddefwr 5 gwarant dyledus ac os na fyddai'n talu £5000, byddai'n cael ei arestio a'i roi yn y carchar.

Roedd y troseddwyr mor berswadiol fel y gwnaeth y dioddefwr dalu rhan o'r swm y gofynnwyd amdano. Ni fydd yr Heddlu byth yn cysylltu â chi fel hyn yn gofyn i chi dalu arian i osgoi cael eich arestio drwy drosglwyddiad banc neu gardiau rhodd neu am arian i'w gasglu gan gludwr.

Os byddwch yn cael galwad fel hyn ac yn ansicr, yna STOPIWCH. Casglwch eu manylion a ffoniwch 159 i siarad ag Adran Twyll eich banc neu 101 ar gyfer yr Heddlu, ond gan ddefnyddio ffôn gwahanol i'r un y cawsoch y galwad gwreiddiol arno.

Os nad oedd gennych ffôn gwahanol wrth law, yna arhoswch am 5 munud a ffonio aelod o'r teulu neu ffrind i sicrhau bod y llinell wedi cael ei datgysylltu. Os byddwch yn credu eich bod wedi cael eich twyllo gan y sgam hon neu unrhyw fath arall o sgam, yna cysylltwch â'ch Banc ar unwaith, a gallwch wneud hynny drwy ffonio 159 a rhoi gwybod i Action Fraud ar Welsh | Action Fraud neu drwy ffonio 0300 123 2040.

Had a call from Microsoft or your internet provider recently?

They are called remote access scams.

They will often start with a phone call from the criminals stating that there is a problem with your internet and they want to fix it. They will explain that for them to do this, you need to download a piece of software or App so that they can access your computer.

It is a SCAM and what they are aiming to do is take over your system and empty your bank accounts.

Companies such as Microsoft, telecommunications providers, banks or other service providers will never contact you out of the blue requesting remote access to your device. Be wary of downloading software from third-party sites, as some of them might have been modified with malware and other threats.

If you think that you may have been a victim of this or any other type of scam, then contact your Bank immediately, which you can do by calling 159 and report it to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/  or call 0300 123 2040.

Wedi cael galwad gan Microsoft neu eich darparwr rhyngrwyd yn ddiweddar?

Gelwir hyn yn sgamiau mynediad o bell. Yn aml, byddant yn dechrau gyda galwad ffôn gan y troseddwyr yn nodi bod problem gyda'ch rhyngrwyd a'u bod ei datrys.  Byddant yn esbonio y bydd angen i chi lawrlwytho darn o feddalwedd neu Ap fel y gallant gael mynediad i'ch cyfrifiadur er mwyn datrys hyn. Mae hyn yn SGAM a'u nod yw cymryd drosodd eich system a gwagio eich cyfrifon banc.

Ni fydd cwmnïau fel Microsoft, darparwyr telathrebu, banciau neu ddarparwyr gwasanaethau eraill byth yn cysylltu â chi yn ddirybudd yn gofyn am fynediad o bell at eich dyfais. Byddwch yn wyliadwrus wrth lawrlwytho meddalwedd o safleoedd trydydd parti, gan fod rhai ohonynt efallai wedi cael eu haddasu â maleiswedd a bygythiadau eraill.

Os byddwch yn credu eich bod wedi cael eich twyllo gan y sgam hon neu unrhyw fath arall o sgam, yna cysylltwch â'ch Banc ar unwaith, a gallwch wneud hynny drwy ffonio 159 a rhoi gwybod i Action Fraud ar Welsh | Action Fraud neu drwy ffonio 0300 123 2040.
